Hi,

If it is the same size engine (5.7L Hemi), the engine itself hasn't changed, but other things have. You will likely need to switch out different sensors. Additionally, check to make sure the intake is the same. Don't get rid of the old engine until you determine the new one is working properly. I say that because other things could be different. For example, the fuel injectors may need to be switched.

One other thought, pay attention to the vacuum hoses as well. Make sure the connectors are the same and available. This is where the intake may need to be changed.

Let me know how things work out for you.

Take care,

Joie

Also, this engine is a fire core that has debris what all should I look for when rebuilding doesn't look like it burned for too long.

Hi,

Wow, I didn't realize that happened. If you are planning a rebuild, make certain that the heads are straight and not warped. Also, I need to know what you plan to do as far as a rebuild. Do you plan to take the engine apart to the block?

Let me know.

Joe

Hi guys. Let me add one comment of value. Reuse the original flex plate. It is common to find those from different years or engine sizes have different numbers of notches, or holes, that are read by the crankshaft position sensor. The Engine Computer will only run the engine when it sees the correct numbers of notches and in the right groupings.

Update: getting heads milled block is good, but I have been searching the forms. And it says that I have to change out the tone ring. There's not many instructions on how to do this. Do you guys have any instructions also? Do I have to remove the pistons to remove the crankshaft? Thanks

Hi,

If you plan to remove the crankshaft, yes, the pistons will need unbolted from it. Physically, they don't need to be removed from the block. You just need to be extra careful when reinstalling it to avoid damage to the rod bearings. Take a piece of rubber hose and place it over each of the connecting rod bolts before installing the crankshaft. That will prevent damage.

What toner ring are you referring to? Is it the one for the crankshaft position sensor? If it is, that is bolted to the crankshaft at the rear. See pics below and let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Yep, that what I'm looking for and thanks for all the useful information. Do I need to replace all of the bolts for the bottom end?

Hi,

Double-check for me, but I believe the original ones are staked (center lock type). See pic below. If they are, you should be okay to reuse them. Note that the stake may appear different than the pic. I tried to get you a general idea.

Let me know how things turn out or if I can help.

Take care,

Joe

I went to go turn it on today and it ran fine for 3 minutes then it starts to misfire. I swapped all sensors from the old to the new and the old flywheel on my scan tool. It says crankshaft sensor is out of sync same for camshaft, but the timing is good I double checked.

Hi,

Let me know the codes that are present. I can check to see for possible issues and diagnostics. Let me know if this is the first start since replacement or if you have driven it prior to this happening.

Let me know

First start, making a weird rubbing it almost sounds like its coming from flywheel noise on bank 2 it sounds like no oil leaking I am my oil pressure says 96 even with it being off so I assume it needs to be replaced but that wouldn't cause the random misfire?

Hi,

What is confusing me is the oil sensor code. For that to set, there needs to be less than 0 psi or more than 7 psi when the key is turned on / engine off. Do you notice any noises that would indicate an oil pressure issue? Something related could cause the cam to be off.

Is the oil pressure sensor new and for your model year?

Let me know.

Start with the pressure sensor to see if that changes things. If it reads pressure with the engine off, it sounds like it may have internally shorted.

Let me know.

Okay, but I don't think that problem is the one causing it because I remember it reading that when my original motor was in it and it was running fine.
