The engine has begun to run hot mainly when at idle. I noticed however that the fan runs at start and continues to run until the temperature gauge gets close to overheating. The fan would just stop running at that point and the vehicle overheats. I replaced the fan clutch about a year ago. At that time I was getting a P0526 code. After replacing it I have gotten a P0480 code so I replaced the fuses but the fan now stops when the temperature rises. What can be the possible causes?

Good morning.

Okay, I had a couple of these with the same issue. What I did was had to have the PCM updated with the most current version from GM. They had similar issue with a lot of these and the updated software took care of the issue.

Have you ever had an update on your PCM?

Roy

Thanks for such a quick reply. I have not had an update to the PCM, can any shop do it or would it have to go to GM dealer?

Some shops can do the update as long as they have the scan tool that can perform this. Call around and ask. The last resort is the dealer but they are the highest price.
