I am wondering if my car has a bad rod in the engine. I can hear what sounds to be a rod knocking.
On my way home yesterday I started loosing power while driving and noise that sounded to be a rod knocking. I had a personal friend look at it and pulled the oil dipstick and said I had bad oil.
I also had him read the codes
P-0032 knock sensor 2.
P-0742 torque converter clutch stuck on.
P-1441 purge valve leak.
Do you think fixing those issue will resolve my problem? Or do you think it sounds like a rod knocking and my engine is shot?

Good afternoon.

None of the codes are related to the noise at all.

As far as the sound, remove the wire from the spark plug one at a time. If it is a rod bearing the noise will either go away or reduce in noise. That would confirm a rod bearing failure.

If the noise stays the same, it may be a main bearing noise as well.

Also, a common area for a knock noise is the flex plate or flywheel at the back of the motor. You would need to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel and push it back into the transmission and carefully examine the flywheel for any cracks. They usually crack at the center around the bolt holes.

I found what looked to be metal shavings in the oil. Is that basically meaning my engine is shot?

It is not a good sign, it sounds like you need an engine.
