Hi guys, I see that I am not the only person out there with electrical issues with my Concorde. I had two problems occur simultaneously. My ABS light and brake warning light came on at the same time as the heater went to default mode: no control, only the defroster on full tilt. The dealer told me that the HVAC controller went out and that the blower motor and blower motor resister needed to be replaced. This much has been done, however when the mechanic who installed these parts attempted to operate the heater, it blew the 10 amp fuse. The two warning lights are still lit as well (they come on about five seconds after the car starts and stay lit). Winter's coming and I need to find the problem. Also, the backup lights quit about the same time. I do not know if any of this is connected. If you could shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

All of these issues look to be related. Fuse 17 is a 10 amp fuse which powers multiple items, namely the ABS controller, the HVAC controller AND the back-up lights through the transmission range sensor as well as the DRL module if it has them.

The issue is which system is causing the failure and why?

An easy way to determine that, would be to disconnect the individual items while watching the current draw across that fuse with an ammeter and circuit breaker while doing so. Just like a parasitic draw test.

That would narrow down the who, then you need to dig into that system to determine why the problem is there. The schematics below are for the related items.

Hey Steve- sorry for the slow response. I took the wiring diagrams to my local repair shop that diagnosed the problem as the transmission range sensor. A trip to the local trans shop got the switch replaced and the trans serviced. It looked like everything was going to be okay until the next day when the defroster came blasting back on and the abs and brake warning lights came back on again. Any insight as to what's going on here?

Did the fuse blow again? If yes, there has to be a short in either the ABS or climate control. BUT it's an intermittent issue. Now you have a new HVAC controller so that shouldn't be it. It could still be a short in the back-up lights after the switch.

Did you notice when things went bad again, what you were doing at the time? Backing up? Adjusting the heat? Stepping on the brakes?

I would start with measuring the current draw of the circuit. You know it's a 10 amp fuse and those generally blow around 10-12 amps. So start with the heat off and foot off the brake. Then measure as you add in the various items. The problem here is that if it's not a solid short you may not see it.

To track it farther you could split the power feeds off and add a fuse to each circuit. Find each feed as it comes out of the junction box, Cut the wire and add a fuse from it to switched power. Then if/when the individual system acts up it would blow it's own fuse. So you start with the circuit on the left and end with the one on the right. That splits out the various items and once you are done tracing you could simply reconnect them. It's a pain but it would narrow it down faster.
