When my A/C is on and I'm sitting in traffic at a red light my truck will sputter then quits running and the oil light comes on, which the manual says to check your oil or water. I'm diligent in basic maintenance and upkeep of my vehicle. Someone said check a coolant sensor. Does anyone have any idea what causes this problem? Thanks in Advance. Scott

Hi,

Scott, based on your description, I don't feel it is the coolant temp sensor. In this case, it sounds like either the throttle body needs cleaned.

What I recommend is to first clean the throttle body to see if that eliminates the issue. If there is no change, then check to see if there are any engine vacuum leaks.

Here is a link that explains how to service the throttle body and check for vacuum leaks. Try this first. It's much less expensive.

Also, the oil light came on because the engine stalled. That indicates it is working as designed.

Let me know what you find.

Take care.
