I drove my vehicle with less than eight thousands miles on it going up to speed of thirty five mph with the parking brake on for one and half miles. I turned it off at the next red light and got home without any problems. However it still smells like burning rubber. Has this done any lasting and critical damage to my car? If so what and do I need to take it into a shop?

You will have to remove the rear wheels and do a full brake inspection. There are several rubber seals and boots that may have been affected and the rotors may be glazed up as well from overheating. If in doubt have a mechanic to do this inspection.
