2001 dodge 1500 318 37000 miles:
howdy gents
so I was driving down the road and noticed my oil pressure gage was reading in the 37-ish area. Slightly low but no noticiable changes. Suddenly my check gauges light comes on and I have no oil pressure. Less than a few minutes later a tapping is heard and I pull over immediately. There is no water in my oil or vice versa and I have plenty of oil. If I let the truck sit, it runs fine (no tapping or nothing)for a couple hours before it does it again. Im sure its not my oil pump and hooking it up to one of those mini computer came up nil. Looking around my truck, I noticed a very small oil leak(more like a seepage) around my oil cooler hose. Would that cause that kind of problem?
is there a different way to donate because I dont like to send my information over the net.
thank ya guys

Maybe we should start with changing the oil and filter, then repair the leakage at the hose or replace it

Could be the oil sending unit or the gauge is acting up

HTH Good Luck!

I had the same problem on my 1996 5.2 liter. Identical behavior. It was clogged oil pump screen. It was an easy repair, as the oil pan drooped down with no interference from other parts. I cleaned the screen, and have driven 25,000 miles since with no problems. The big difference, however, is that my truck had 110,000 miles. If yours has only 37,000, it may not be the same problem. I hope this helps.
