I recently brought a 2500 dodge truck. The person jump started the truck and reverse the jumping cables with a portable jump starter. The gauges are not working and the engine is idling very high ( about 3,000 rpm). I been told it might be a fuse. If it is the fuse, where is located and is the battery ok.
also it is fuel injected and is that the reason it is idling very high. Thanks

Hi wjlogan, sorry for the delay and Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation and selecting us as your auto repair site Feel free to ask questions at anytime and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2010

Okay the problem here is if the polarity is reversed it could do some damaging effects-

1. Load test the battery to check its condition if okay check all these fuses no. 5/11/14/17 in the junction block at right end of dash this fuse powers all the gauges-some could be blown

2. While engine is idling disconnect the IACV-

NOTE: When the battery has lower than 11 volts its not enough to power the computer therefore the computer loses some its memories
