I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus SE with the 2.7L DOHC engine and on start up the car is very quiet and runs perfectly, when the engine begins to warm up it starts a slight knocking which is coming from inside the engine, as the engine gets warmer the knocking gets louder, but my biggest concern is once you get above idle speed the knocking stops completely, I am not seeing any power loss, the oil levels are right on. I know these engines are prone to problems but is this a repairable issue or should I just cut my losses? I only have put 1400 miles on the car since I purchased it from a private party and the oil was extremely clean when I purchased it.

2001 2.7 v6 dodge intrepid.

Fired it up this morning. No unusual sounds. ( At idle )

under load however, knocking can be heard from right rear/middle of engine. Go back to idle and noise is gone.

I have taken off the valve covers and inspected. No sludge no build up. Timing chain looks fine, no play ( from the top )

noticed some white/cream colored residue on inside top of valve covers ( condensation or blown head gasket )

after research apparently its quite common. With no real answers except to not buy dodge
