I have a 1996 Ram 1500 - 5.2 - auto trans - 125K miles. This problem just started happening today. I have only had the truck a few weeks and it is the first day of damp weather. Anyway after runninmg about 5 minutes I stopped and went into a store for a few minutes. When came out and started the truck everything seemed OK. Tac at 500 rpms idle. I put truck in gear. Proceed to go. Stop for a stop sign and the tac drops to about 200 rpms and then adjusts up to 500 rpm. I go stop again and this time it drops to 200 rpm then stalls. It seems that as long as I have my foot on gas it's Ok but when I take my foot off to brake, the rpms drop and either stalls or almost and adjusts up to 500 rpm idle.
It also sounds like I have an exhaust leak but it's been there since I bought the trruck. I also have a check engine code of P0135 (o2 sensor). Could the cat or sensor be doing this? Fuel filter or pump? Possible wires b/c of dampness? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pat

I have/had the same problem. First time believe it or not it was the transmission fluid. I had an old repair manual that told me to use dextron, bad news man. I changed the fluid and it ran like a top again. The second time was the idle air control valve. The third (great trucks but really sensitive electronics) was the charging system. Hope this gives you some direction. It isn't going to anything major I think though.
