Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Dodge Ram Two Wheel Drive Automatic 88000 miles

I have a 3500 5.9L turbo diesel and the engine shuts off every once in a while while driving. It seems be starving for fuel. Once it stops, it is very difficult to restart - if it will. The first time it conked out, I had it towed to a repair shop and they replaced the batteries - but of course that did not fix the problem. I've been told that this symptom sounds like the fuel filter needs to be replaced. As far as I know, the fuel filter has never been replaced. What do you suggest? If it is the fuel filter, where is it, and how do you replace it?

Thanks,

If filter never been replace I think you should start by replacing all filters
do an oil change
change air and all fuel filters and water separators
good luck
