2001 Dodge Ram V8

On my 2001 dodge ram sometimes it runs fine and somedays it dosen't but here the past couple of days it dosen't wanna stay running. When you crank it up it will cut back off if you dont keep pushing the gas pedal. So I have to push the brake and the gas pedal to drive it because when you come up to a stop sign it will cut off quick if you are not smashing the gas to it. My husband thinks that maybe the fuel filter needs replacing but can you tell me what you think the case may be. Thanks

You might clean the throttle-body and check idle air system. Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand autostores used to check codes for free, if there are any. Changing the fuel filter sounds like a good idea, just make sure there is no pressure on the system before taking any lines loose. Some of the autostores used to loan out a fuel pressure gage.

The only fuel filter on your truck is a sock on the intake in the tank. Its most likely a computer problem with reguards to some sort of sensor. The truck has a on board dianostic system that can be used with a turning the key on and off 3 times and read the codes on the odometer. Your owners manual should have this in it. If theres no code, then its hard to diagnose
