had to jump start my 98 dodge ram 5.2l. battery only 2 years old. after starting, I let off gas and everything dies, lights, everything. Is it alternator or idle air control?

It sounds like it could be both, I would check the alternator output and then replace it if it is not changing. This guide can help, and I have left diagrams below on how to change the alternator out. Disconnect the battery first.

Also, for the stalling at idle problem the IAC sounds like it is dirty or not working correctly. The location is in the diagrams as well.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
