1997 Dodge Ram Head Gasket

My mechanic found coolant in the cylinders and says i have a blown head gasket. He suggests I buy a new engine as with the miles on the truck it's more economical than having to repair the lower gasket next. Is he sending me down the right path?

Hi there,

you can run the risk of starting to burn oil if you o/haul a cylinder head on an older engine, i would do a leak down test on the engine to determine the integrity of the rings, and also take into account if the engine was starting to burn oil before the head gasket issue.
