Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Dodge Ram 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My destributor recently stopped turning so I went and bought a new one. I put it in and it stell isn't turning. The engine turns over just fine but the part that is supposed to turn the destributor will not turn. I replaced the oil pump about a year ago and the shaft looked fine. I am not sure what is supposed to turn it and I need help so I don't just keep buying parts.

If the rotor isn't moving, the distributor driveshaft is either broken or the gear is bad. Here is an exploded view of the distributor drive shaft.

Let me know if this helps. Joe

I replaced the oil pump drive shaft and I had it started but it keeps jumping out of time. I think the the cam gear that turns it is missing a tooth. Does that sound right?

that is possible, but unlikely. Was the distributor shaft in good condition?
