1976 Other Dodge Models V8 Two Wheel Drive n/a miles

Dodge 318 has backfire through left bank looking toward the front. IT has headers and I heard a little pop a while back and now, it is worse to the point of not idling. I run a compression test and the cylinders are in intolerance, except the max I could get out of one cylinder on the left bank was 120 psi. Could there be a bad valve causing the backfire even though they are in in tolerance. The compression was from 120 to 150 PSI

If the backfire was a one time thing don't worry about it. Bu tif it's not idliilng correctly then check the low cylinder. It may be just a bad plug or wire. But when doing compression checks there shoul be no more than a 20% variance which your one cylilnder is or borderline at best. You could have something like a bent pushrod as well. Check the plugs, and ignition stuff first to see if that corrects it. Then take the valve cover off and look for bent push rods or things not working right, broken spring etc. Then after all that put some oil in the cylinder and test it wet to see what it does. If it doesn't change then it's agood possibility it's an internal problem.
