I had my alternator replaced last month which shut the battery light off but my engine light remained on. It has been on for 6 months now and the Dodge dealer told me it's a "counter" code that tells them the number of starts since my battery issue first began.

I was hoping the new alternator would have turned off the engine light as well but it did not. My brother told me to try disconnecting the negative from my battery for a few minutes to remove any static electricity. However, I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

I have taken my car in twice for the engine light and paid my Dodge dealer $100 each time for the test. Both times they told me it is the same "counter" code that has been stuck in the computer forever it seems and they can't turn it off.

Therefore, any ideas for getting rid of this old code in the computer so I can get notified of any new problems that arise from the engine light would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
