Transmission problem
1995 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 126K miles

The car starts and runs well but doesn't want to move. In the forward gears if you put it about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it may lurch forward. In reverse it will only lurch if you gas it while it is going into gear. Unlike most cars you can't feel this going into gear.

The guy I got the car from had just had the rear brakes replaced. The car rolls fine when in neutral and not running. FYI

If it rolls in neutral it isnt likely the brakes. Sounds liek the trans may have gone out, not uncommon for those vehicles. You could try a service first to be sure the filter isnt plugged up with clutch material. Or even try having the computer scanned to see if it has recorded any trans fault codes.

Thanks for the response Jack. Could it be the torque convertor?

Possibly, but if it is, the odds are that the trans has metal contamination from it falling apart
