Shakes or Wobbles problem
2004 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 80K km miles

I have auto windows. I discovered 2 smears of a substance that seemed like a lubricant, clear, kind of resembled vaseline on both sides of the window - the smear started at a point 75% up the window and dragged down, looks like it was made inside the door and then smeared when the window was raised. Also, now, when I try to lower or raise the window a screeching/grinding noise accompanied by window/door vibrations occurs.

What is wrong? Has something broken inside the door? Thank you for any help.

To save weight, the window mechanism has been changed from a fairly reliable mechanism to a cable and series of pulleys. The pulleys are plastic. What else can be said? They're plastic.

I suspect you're hearing the cable grinding across the peg that held a pulley. The grease probably came from the cable. We used to use a silicone lubricant on the window channels to make them slide freely, but that evaporated in a few minutes and the residue did not migrate to other parts.
