1998 Dodge Caravan Acceleration

I having acceleration problems. When trying to accelerate the engine chokes and makes a popping noise. It gets worse when you try to accelerate over 40mph. (I genreally drive through the city)

Hi:
When was the last tune-up? Also, did you ever replace the fuel filter? These are general questions that could cause a miss. If the popping is coming all of the time, even at an idle, you may need to have the compression test done. There could be a burnt valve, but I'm not there to hear it. Let me know about the other things and I will advise you from that point.
