when i'm sitting still the it reads 30 mph after the electrical goes out and the abs light comes on. i have to hit the dash to get it to work thats when everything comes on and it reads 30 mph

The dash cluster comes out by taking the trim off first. It could be a bad connection, speedometer, ot even a speed sensor, the ABS uses it, so does the speedometer. It is code setting, and a scan tool helps. See the section under 'first Things To Check". ok

I agree that your instrument cluster is probably going bad. I just finally replaced mine after spending nearly 3 years having to smack the dash. Also, I found the speedometer to be off 15-22 mph when the cluster did seem to be working (all gauges displaying) and the most important piece of advice is the fuel gauge may not be registering correctly either. If you are not able to replace the cluster right away, at least be aware of those 2 very important points.
