You can check the pressure yourself. You can rent the guge at advanced and they will tell you how to use it. If you have a loss of pwer you could check the following Engine lacks power. See one of the following: 1.) Incorrect ignition timing. 2) Fuel filter clogged and/of impurities in fuel 3) Faulty or incorrect gapped spark plugs. 4) Air filter dirty. 5) Spark timing control system not working properly. 6) Faulty ignition coil(s) 7) Brakes binding. 8) Auto Trans fluid not correct 9) faulty distributor cap or wires 10) EGR system not functioning properly. 11) Use of sub standard fuel. 12) Low or uneven cylinder compression pressures 13) Air vacuum leak at intake manifold or plenum. It could be fuel relay. They get hot and shut down, ussually after 30 min, then you have to wait while they cool before you can drive again. Does that happen? Please detail in full all that happens, times and consistancy. Do not start throwing money at the car until youknow what it is. Some of the thing above may need done anyway

Okay. I turn the car on. It turns over, the dash lights go on and then the engine dies. The lights stay on, the engine just stops.

Could be the fuel pump, or the electric ignition on your steering colomn. They are a pain to change, and i;m not sur it to be the problem. Also check loose or damaged wiring in ignition system or intake manifold vacuum leaks. Make sure all mounting bolts/nuts are tight and all vacuum hoses connected to the manifold are attached properly and in good condition.

Ok, you say the fuel light stays on. This light is a fuel pressure sensor so it seems that there is a fuel related problem here.

So when was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?

Has the fuel pump ever been changed?

I am thinking that between the fuel filter and the fuel sock in the tank there is restriction. And when you had the vehicle towed to the shop it knocked loose the drebri and it ran fine till it was sucked up again.

So, if you would do as Kevin suggested and go rent a fuel pressure tester and check the pressure again. Let me know what size engine, in Liters, and I will get you the Fuel pressure.
