A rodent got into my engine bay and ate some of my insulation but also appears to have eaten through the wiring to the engine temperature sensor. I cannot find where it is located on my engine to check the wiring.

The sensor is back at the engine/bell housing split. Mounted to the passenger side cylinder head on the inner rear of the head. Item C107 in the picture.

I would check every wire on there. Those little Ba$%#@@$% love to chew.
Of course the automakers do not help when they use bio-plastic wire insulation. Nothing like coating the wiring with animal feed.

Ford doesn't use a conventional style coolant temperature sensor, they use a cylinder head temperature sender. It is on the rear of the engine on the right side above the bell-housing flange on the 5.0 engine. What is the issue you are having?

This is a pretty common question for these engines. You have what is called a cylinder head temperature sensor. Exact same thing as an engine coolant temperature sensor, it is just in the cylinder head. Now the unfortunate part, it is under the intake manifold. If you take a look at the picture you will see the intake ports are exposed in order to access it.

Let me know if you need more info. Thanks

Very much appreciated. Unfortunately, this takes it right out of my comfort zone for executing at home. At least I have a general grasp of the labor involved, which helps when communicating with mechanics. Thanks again.

Haha. I totally understand. I do a lot of my own stuff as well and I think my best ability is to know when not to do something and that is normally pluming. I am scared of floods behind my walls and not knowing it until it is too late.

Let us know if you need more info or what it turns out to be. Thanks

Your engine doesnt have a traditional ECT(engine coolant temperature) sensor, instead it employs a cylinder head temperature(CHT) sensor.
