Hi guys,

I was driving and noticed I smelled anti freeze. When taking off the radiator cap it began to smoke, although my temperature gauge was not showing that it was overheating. I waited for it to cool down and went on to add some coolant. As I was doing this I lost grip of the anti freeze container and unfortunately I spilled a decent amount of coolant under the hood. I'm not sure of what parts it spilled on exactly. I wiped off as much as I could and later on when I was driving I noticed smoke/mist coming from under the hood and still the temperature gauge remains at normal and when removing the radiator cap this time it was not smoking. The radiator was replaced a little more than a year ago as was the main connecting hose. Is this just the spilled coolant smoking from the combo of cold air and engine heat? As it's been very cold the past few days, where I live. The next day on my way to work I noticed the smoking again from under the hood towards the from of the car near the grill. I don't see any coolant under the car where it was parked.
Any opinion or ideas would be greatly appreciated. This car is old and I use it mainly as my wife uses the newer Lexus I own as she travels with the kids daily.

Thanks,
Stephen

Hello,

I would watch the coolant level. If there is a leak in the cooling system somewhere the coolant level will go down as the coolant will be leaking out. Also the temperature gauge is a great way to know if there is a problem. If it doesn't go up then all parts of the cooling system are working properly. Please keep us informed.

Thanks,
Alex
