My daughter lost her keys so instead of getting a key made, I thought it would be easier and cheaper just to change the column, so I did so. After the column was replaced the truck cranks over but does not start. I read where the key needs reprogrammed but there’s no dash lights on to monitor the security light.

Hi,

I don't think this model year used an immobilizer. Do you remember a theft light on the dash? Does the key have a chip in it or is it a traditional steel key? Also, is the column from the same year and model?

Let me know.

Joe

No theft light is coming on, none of the dash lights comes on with new column. Cranks over but that’s it. The original key that was stolen had a slinger black head and the new key has a black head and is more round. Not sure the make and model of new column but the columns are slightly different but fit. I didn’t think that would matter but I guess it does. That’s really my question in order to work does it have to be the same make and model?

Hi,

Based on what is happening, yes, I think the column used is the problem. Chances are the wiring in the column in some way is different. Plus, I'm not sure how this column is designed as far as a sensor to recognize the key. One other thought is if you used the switch in the new column, chances are it won't work.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe
