Drove the truck everyday this past week to work and back then parked it Friday for the weekend. It got bitterly cold Friday and Saturday night, went to start it Sunday and it wouldn't turn over. It will crank and sputter a few times but never fully start. After a few times started to get nothing but a click. I replaced the old battery with a brand new one but got the same results. Need help!

Basic stuffs -do below to determine if its fuel or spark issue

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 in away from ground have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM, Ignitor camshaft and crankshaft sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

Alright, well I went out to go start it today and to try the spark plug thing and low-and-behold it started (w/o the spark plug test). So I shut it off and I was able to start it right back up. I drove it a little bit, and did the same thing, started right back up. Drove some more but this time when I went to start it back up I got less action from it than before it had started in the first place. Guy at the local parts store seems to think its the alternator. Any ideas?
