Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the cover for the alternator drive belt and disconnect the electrical connections to the alternator.

Remove the alternator drive belt and disconnect the alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolts but be careful not to drop the spacer for the pivot bolt as you do so. Remove the alternator by sliding it toward the headlight bucket.

Install the new alternator assembly and tighten the adjusting and pivot bolts on the alternator to 40 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench. Install the alternator drive belt and use a belt tension gauge to adjust the belt tension (80 lbs. for a used belt and 150 lbs. for a used one).

Attach the electrical connections to the alternator and replace the belt cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench.
