My mechanic wants to charge me $700.00 to replace my intake manifold gasket and my water pump. He says that is what is causing my antifreeze leak I dont trust him. Does this sound correct?

It's possible that they can cause coolant to leak, yes. If you don't trust the mechanic's diagnosis you may want to try another mechanic before paying out the money though?

Thanks for using 2CarPros. Com!

Wow, sounds cheap. I just had my intake manifold gasket replaced for $1k at the dealer (gasket only).

Yes, this can cause coolant to leak into the crankcase (check your oil and see if it is a 'chocolate milk' like consistency or perhaps frothy or foamy on top. This indicates coolant in the crankcase and suggests a head gasket or intake manifold gasket problem. I have been told that the GM V-6 3.4 liter engine has problems with intake manifold gaskets.

I have 3 of these pieces of crap vans in the family. All three of them have had the same problem with the intake gaskets leaking anti-freeze into the crank case. As I am writing this post, I have number 3 sitting in my garage replacing the intake. I had a shop replace the first 2 at a price of 700.00 dollars for the gaskets only, so I have time now to do it myself and save me some money. I replacement gasket kit only cost about 100.00 dollars and the rest is labor. Turned in my last 2 repair bills to dex-cool settle back in Aug 2008, and still have not received any monies back from the settlement due to GMC filing bankripcey. No that is not a type error because that is what gmc did, rip the consumer off with this piece of crap, faulty, I will be looking for a new car here shortly and my family has alway stood behind chevy. GMC, for as long as I can remember. I think my next purchase is going to be Saturn, Kia, or Toyota. I can't believe that American auto makers are putting this type of junk on the showroom floor and asking people to buy these cars, what a sad state our auto companies have become. And to think my dad worked for this company for 40 years.
