4WD activation or not.

Have a 2000 tahoe z71 with 80K+ on it. Twice this has happened. I go to activate the 4WD (pushbutton) and nothing happens - no 4WD and no dash lights come on indicating that the 4WD is activated and the 'service 4WD lite comes on.' Sometime later I try it again and it all works fine. Vehicle does remain in 2WD when this happens. :(

I had the same problem it turned out to be the wiring on the actuator. Which is under the vehicle close to the front of the trans.

I had this problem with my 2000 Z71. Turned out to be the actual 4wd switch and the mechanic said it was fairly common problem.
