Tahoe was running poorly. Mechanic said plugs and wires needed. Now runs great on the road, but a very rough idle once it heats up. Now he says it has low pressure in one cylinder and needs an expensive valve job. Anything I can do?

A cylender with low compression is ususally felt regardless of engine speed. Did he tell you what the compression was for each cylender? Also, cold or hot, low compression is felt. I would recommend having the compression retested. It's not hard to do. Here is a how to for checking compression. The gauge can be purchased from this site, or some parts stores will rent them.

Let me know what you find. That way we can be sure if this is the problem. Also, keep in mind, this vehicle has low mileage; therefore, I really think we need to look at something else. That is my gut feeling.
