The oil pressure on my 2003 Chevy Suburban normally runs between 40-50 depending on RPM's. One day the needle guage pegged at 80 and doesn't move. All the other guages on the dash seem to be working fine. The guage pegs at 80 even before I turn the engine on. I turn the key to the on position, but do not start the engine and the guage reads 80. It goes back to zero when I turn the key to off or acc.

What do you think the problem is and how do I fix it?

Is that something a novice car guy can do? What equipment do I need? What is the process?

Unplug the oil pressure switch and see what happens if it stops doing it-if so replace the switch if not you have a wiring problem or the gauge itself
