When I apply the brake at around 8 mph the brake pedal stiffens and there is a groaning noise. The truck then pulls slightly to the left. I have a 2500 diesel silverado

I had new brakes put on at 120,000 miles and the problem was there before they were installed and has continued after.

Hi there,

The pulling to one side will be either a caliper that is over tight or a pressure related problem, I would get hold of two brake hose clamps and isolate the front brakes, (lock off both brake hoses) and test this again (low speed only as your brakes are now rear working only) if the stiff pedal and noise are gone I would be looking at the caliper if not the ABS unit if fitted or master cyl, see if there is any change with this test.
