2003 Chevy Silverado check engine light on

The engine light is on and the code reader is giving me codes PO171 Bank 1 and PO174 Bank 2 running lean. It does not give me a specific sensor. I have replaced fuel cap and fuel filter recently. Can you tell me what this problem can be?

Check to see if you have any vacuum leaks. Alot of the time it is a intake manifold. But take a look at all the hoses first. Was there a problem before you replace the fuel filter? Is that the reason you replaced it?

Yes, the problem was there before I replaced the filter. Something else, when I start the truck from sitting overnight, it will spit and sputter and then die, and on the next turn of the key it will fire up like normal on the first crank. While driving on the highway if I floor it, the truck will rev to 4000 rpm and act like it is hitting a rev limiter with very gradual if any speed change.

It does sound like a intake gasket to me. Another thing to check does that have coil over plug or a dis. Cap. Also check the fuel pressure regulator. It is located on the intake manifold. Disconnect the vacuum hose and see if there is fuel in it.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator located?
It has coil over plug.
One other thing since the engine light came on, I dropped from an average of 17-18 mpg to 12-13mpg.

Its located on the fuel rail on the intake manifold. Its round with a vacuum line going to it
