Recently I noticed oil spots on my driveway from my truck. There are a few small spots, it looks as though oil is coming down the side of my engine and hitting the guard underneath, then running off in several directions. Could it be the head? I'm sure I'm not the only Silverado owner with this problem. Any ideas on what to check would be appreciated. Also, I switched to synthetic oil about a year ago. I understand that synthetic oil is thinner and is prone to leaking more than conventional. Can I, should I, switch back to conventional regardless of whether or not this leak is fixed?

Stay with the synthetic oil. Go get some oil dye. Put the dye in the crankcase. After it runs a bit, take a UV light and a pair of yellow glasses and look for the dye trail.
