I have a 1997 Chevy Silverado, 2WD, 1/2 ton, automatic w/ overdrive - 234000 miles.
The tachometer, speedometer, odometer and gear indicater would sometimes stop working and transmission will not shift. Problem steadily got worse til the problem was almost constant (would work every now and then and for no reason) It could be manually shifted but only between 2nd and 3rd gear. All other gauges are ok.
Code reader indicated several transmission problems so I replaced the transmission with used one. Did not solve the problem, Check engine light is still on but code reader shows no faults. Unable locate likely wiring or connections.
Any suggestions?

When this happens, check the trans 20 fuse for power. If you don't have power on the fuse, replace the ignition switch.(not to be confused with the ignition lock cylinder)

Let me know what you find.
