I have a '96 Chevy 1500 Truck with a check engine light on. It's a very long story, and to make it short, to do the next stage of the diagnostics, I need to turn the light off, drive it around, and see if the light comes back on.
I would rather not pay the dealer\mechanic to just simply turn the light off (as I have already spent a bundle on diagnostics), so if you could tell me how to turn the light off, that would be great!

*The truck has the old odometer -- the analong, not digital kind*
Thanks!

Do you know what code you have? You can try to disconnect the battery and see if it goes out. I dont think on a obd2 system you can do that.

The problem is that every time the mechanic turns the light off we and it comes back on, we get different codes. They are mostly for the catalytic converters, and O2 Sensors. We are slowly sifting our way through, and doing various things to figure out exactly what is wrong. But, I would rather not keep taking it back to the dealer to turn the light off between diagnostics. I can try disconnecting the battery tho. Thanks! Any more help would be great!
