Engine Mechanical problem
1990 Chevy Silverado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1990 Silverado that I bought used 4 yrs ago, when I bought it the speedometer wasn't working & have taken it to numerous mechanics but they've been unable to find the problem but my problem now is that it will start start backfiring then die. I have changed the spark plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor but that has solved the problem. Where I live mechanics are scarce & always busy. Any ideas

Backfires is a sign the timing is off, or you have worn engine parts, check the position of your plug wires, they may be misrouted, each cylinder has its number stamped on the intake above it, and the firing order is on the label under the hood, or stamped into the intake in front of the carb area. Be glad to look it up if you can post the engine size?
