Chevy S-10 transmission

I have an s-10 pickup that has seen numerous mechanics. Does this vehichle, which is an automatic, have a separate computer for the transmission? It is a 1995, auto, two wheel rear, with a 2.2L engine. The transmission shop said that my transmission doesn't register on the computer and everyone else just has no clue. It only goes into 2nd and 3rd in drive or shifting manually. No O/D or 1st.

I have been having a problem with the trans in my 1995 S10 it has a 4.3 V6 and around180,000 miles on it the automatic trans but will not shift on its own but has all of the gears if used manually. What sensor or modular causes this?
