In the direction that it turns hard, does it turn just harder than normal or like there's no power assist at all. (like motor isn't running.) Please advise.

WHEN YOU TURN TO THE RIGHT IT IS NORMAL. WHEN YOU TURN TO THE LEFT THE CAR SHAKES AND THE ENGINE TRYS TO DIE AS IF IT WERE NOT GETTING GAS.

From the way you describe the problem, it sounds like the power steering sector itself. It's turning OK one way indicating the pump and pressure system are good. The other way the PS pressure wants to go into bypass because the PS sector won't accept the assist. Going into "bypass" is what is trying to stall the engine. I've done quite a bit of research on your problem and everything points to the sector.
