Fuel pump in my truck is very noisey. Came on all of a sudden. Is it advisable to change the pump by myself or take it to a place with a hoist.. Also what makes the noise in a fuel pump and does it mean the pump itself is bad. Vehicle is a 1998 S10 rear wheel drive auto trans 4 cyl std. Cab with just over 56,000 miles. Fuel filter is changed EVERY year.

Drop the tank but inspect the plumbing for blockage and the operation of the pressure regulator
fuel pump/ check valve. A noisy pump for me means its on its way out-

You can also lift the truck box and access it that way. Sometimes its easier.
