1996 Chevy S-10 serpentine belt tension

How do I loosen the tension on the serpentine belt so that I can replace the alternator?

Use a wrench on the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley to the tensioner on the old style units. On the new units a 3/8" breaker bar gets inserted into the square hole so you can move the tensioner.
