1991 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 160K miles

Hello,

I have a Chevy S10 single cab, 2.5L 4cyl. I have a water pump go bad on it. I go it replaced, and replaced the sepentine belt as well. The truck no longer leaks, but the temperature guage keeps fluctuating well above 210, and when we were test driving it, the check guage light came on. Turnign the heater on full blast usually seems to bring it down. My father in law thinks it is the thermostat is bad; does this sound right?

I have to agree with your father in law, rule of thumb is that after a thermastat is put in a vehicle and the fluid has to be drained or runs out of water the thermastat should be replaced. The thermastat seems to be sticking.
