No overdrive

I have a 1997 chevy s-10 extended cab pickup. 4.3 liter v6 with an automatic transmission. The transmission has stopped shifting into overdrive. I have serviced the transmission evry 30,000 miles since I bought it. It runs fine other than this problem. The only trouble code I have gotten is one saying that my canister vent purge valve is malfunctioning. This didn't start until after the overdrive quit working. Is there a switch or something that may have gone bad?

Actually there is a recall on some parts from gm that has to do with the ABS. With the ABS system you have there is a speed sensor plug that goes to the ABS unit. Check the plug and make sure is is ok. You might want to call GM and have the recall serviced. If the speed sensor has low or no voltage then your transmission would not work properly. I don't know if this will fix your problem but it could be a cause.
