Brake Lights and Turn Signals not working on old car

I have a 63 Chevy Biscayne and my Turn Signals and Brake lights do not work properly. The tail lights do work when I turn on the headlights, but not when I press the brake or signal. I replaced the fuses and signal controller on the fuse panel, but that had no effect. The left turn signal does turn on when it wants to, but only when it is the right turn position.

Ah, a good question. Here is a simple answer that I follow. You can either start with taking off the belts by loosening the tightners and pivot bolts or you can buy a repair manual which is a GREAT investment in your car.

For a more seriouse answer, get it all unbolted ect. Turn it face up. Slide it across the firewal tward the passenger side till you hit about the middle of the car. There is a gap there that will allow you to wiggle it out. You must put it back in the same way you took it out. Not a fun job no matter how you do it. Another method. Take the top front motor mounts loose. Put it in gear and let it roll back alittle, or forward, cant remember, this will roll the motor alittle nd alow for more room to manuver. Have fun, thats not a jog I envy

I had to do this on an 89 and if it is even remotely similar it is a terrible job. The manual told me I had to take out the half shaft to get at mine but I was able to do it by removing the oil filter (needed a change anyway) and finessing it out the bottom. Best of luck to you.
