Engine Cooling problem
1998 Other Chevrolet Models 4 cyl Automatic 97,000 miles

I took my car, a 1998 Chevy Prizm, in to have the oil changed and the mechanic told me that my water pump was leaking. He said that they added a gallon of fluid to it and advised that I have it replaced. My question is if it is leaking shouldn't I be seeing a wet area on the ground where it is parked because I don't. Also, I haven't noticed a change in the temperature gauge. Being unfamiliar with automotive maintenance, I just want to make sure that I am not being scammed. Also, does an estimate of $300 sound about right? Thanks for your hep.

If its leaking it should be noticeable and if its not pumping coolant through out the engine then it should be overheating. Take your shot

Also razz if they added a gallon it should have been overheating, if your not maintaining your car, you can expect problems. You need to look at your fluids regularly. This aids in getting in not getting scamed somewhere
