2001 Chevy Monte Carlo It Starts but Wont Shift at All

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo ss pace edition it turns on but when put on drive/reverse or any gear it wont move Not sure if its the transmission since it had no signs before it did have a whinning noise for a few weeks and when this happend the noise went away i was actually on my way to get the EGR fixed when i stoped at a gas station and when i turned it wouldnt drive.can u help??

Assuming the fluid is up and red in color, the whining noise could have been the pump in the transmission which may have finally failed. You will be able to tell by having the trans pressure tested. That will tell the story. Hope this helps.
