Why won't my car start right away?

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 6 Cyl 3.8L. When I turn the key to start it sometimes does not start. I have to keep trying, but eventually it will start. Sometimes when I turn the wheel it will start. I'm afraid that sooner or later it won't start at all. Do you know the cause and what it should cost to fix?

I would check the fuel pump first. This can be checked with a fuel pressure gauge.
I would also suspect maybe the shift interlock or steering lock systems could be a problem.

Use starting fluid in the intake. Does it fire right up?
