Electrical problem
1998 Chevy Monte Carlo 6 cyl Automatic 186000 miles

Yesterday on my way home my Voltage light came on. I would have pulled over but I did not have a cell phone. So I drove it home. Once I got home I cut the car off and cut it back on maybe 3-4 more times in one hour intervals. Also I noticed on the way home a roaring or humming sound coming from the front of the car, so when I got home and raised the hood I smelled a burning like rubber burning. Closed the hood let it cool and waited until this morning to start it up. Put the key in. Car was dead as a door knob. Jumped it with my girlfriends car and it took me to work, now I'm here at work with the noise still happening and the smell. Any help?

Hi, I'd have to check under your hood. Check wiring circuits to and from alternator and battery. I wouldn't drive it till I found the problem. In some of the larger communities, national brand autostores, will make house calls.I 've heard of them changing out batteries and alternators and such. I'm not sure what they charge, you can call and ask? If you can't spot anything, maybe they can? Just a thought.
