Warranty problem
2005 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibou with 60000 miles and it is leaking oil from the rear main seal.I took it in the the dealership and they told me it was not covered under warranty because it was a seal, and seals are not covered. My question is. Is this true.I always thought the rear main was a bearing and if it is a bearing isn't it supposed to be covered under warranty?

Sorry but its not covered under warrenty, it only covers the car for 3years 36,000 miles, which ever comes first. The rear main seal is made if hard rubber. Only 2007 on is 5 year 100,000 powertrain. It would be covered if you had an extended warrenty.

We did get the extended warranty. And the dealership is telling me it is not covered because it is a seal, and not a bearing. Should I take it to another dealership for a second opinon

Before you do that I would call the extended warrenty company first and see if its covered, because each company is different and only cover certain things, a seal may not be one of them and it depends on how good of a policy you have there at different levels, the more you spend the more parts that are covered, I would call first before wasting the money at another dealer that tells you its not covered.
