1998 Chevy Malibu check engine light

Th check engine light will not go off, I had a scann done to te vehical and was told to replace the gas cap. I replaced the gas cap, as well as diconected the battery, and the check engine ligt is still on.

Need to use diagnostic scanner to delete the trouble code(s) and if proper repairs were made the light will not come back. If it does then further diagnostics will need to be done.
